the Exodus is the greatest story ever told as it describes G-d’s caring and compassionate
role in the rescue of the Children of Israel from the “Iron Furnace” of Egypt. Even
though it occurred over three thousand years ago, it is relevant, because G-d, who exists
outside time and space, considers this event as a seminal part of our history, one which
we discuss and recall every day. As we say in

attested to by recent pictures from the Hubble Telescope) Hashem focuses His love on us
confirming our closeness to him.
Let’s review the Book of Exodus which describes our encounter with the Master of the
Universe . We learned about the first exile of the Children of Israel in Mitrzayim and
their years of slavery and suffering. Hashem heard their cries and sent His servant Moshe
to rescue them. Hashem sent Ten Plagues against Egypt and Pharaoh. After this
relentless assault, Pharaoh conceded and let the Children of Israel go. After we journeyed
from Mitzrayim, we halted at the Red Sea (Yam Suf). Pharaoh changed his mind and
together with the Egyptians pursued the children of Israel who cried out to Hashem.
Hashem told them to move on and that he would save them. Miraculously the waters
parted and the Children of Israel crossed the Yam Suf on dry land to the other side.
However, when the Egyptians chased after us, Hashem caused the waters to close over
them and they all perished. The Children of Israel then sang praises to Hashem. From
there, they traveled to Sinai where we received the Ten Commandments. Moses then
taught the nation numerous laws. Moses ascended Mount Sinai for forty days and forty
nights. Due to confusion as to the time of his return from the mountain, the Children of
Israel thought that Moses was not coming back and they demanded that Aharon make
them a new god. The Golden Calf emerged and the Children of Israel danced and were
merry. When Moses returned with the Stone Tablets and saw the Golden Calf, he threw
down the Tablets and broke them. He then destroyed the Golden Calf and several
thousand people died as a result of a plague in which Hashem punished them. After this
event, Moses was instructed regarding the building of the
