Parshas Bo/

(15th Parsha of 54 Sections of Torah)

The Code of Thank You

This is the 15

number 15? As noted in a previous discourse, it represents the Sabbath

(Shabbos) as the Sabbath is 15% of the week. There are 10,080 minutes

in a week and Shabbos is 1512 minutes. If you do the calculations, it

comes to 15%. According to Dr . Ari Friedman, this represents the

creation of this world and the next world, which is the Yod Hei of God’s

name, which is the Gematria of 15. The Shabbos is the celebration of the

world and our reminder of the exodus from Egypt In this Parsha we learn

that God took us out of Egypt with a strong hand (see

Moreover, it is one of the reasons why we commemorate the Sabbath as

it is mentioned in the Ten Commandments (see

where it says, “ And you shall remember that you were a slave in the

land of Egypt, and Hashem, your God, has taken you out from there with

a strong hand.” With the aid of the codes, we see additional meaning .

The

th Parsha of the Torah. What is the significance of theExodus 13:16).Deuteronomy 5:15),Torah says at the end of Parshas Bo,

for with a strong hand God took us out of Egypt” (Exodus 13:16)

about the Exodus and speak about it. Moreover, if we take the acronym

of the encircled letters, (rearranged) it spells the word

meaning praise, as we say in Psalms,

confirms Rashi’s interpretation in that when we don the

must praise God for taking us out of Mitzrayim, our former house of

bondage. As we read along in the pasuk (sentence) we mine more

findings. The encoded letters of the phrase

Rashi, the term, Totaphos refers to the phylacteriesTefilin). He says that whoever will see the Tephilin will be remindedvkv,, tehilla, susk vkv,, a praise of David. ThisTephilin, weubthmuv sh ezj , spells the

was unsure about how to serve God when he said to Pharaoh, “we will

not know how to serve God until our arrival there” (see

prayers,

and Eternal King. We start off our prayers with words of thanking ,

which is confirmed with the above finding. It is interesting to observe

after our people were finally freed from the iron furnace of Egypt that

Moses never told Pharaoh of God’s true intentions of bringing the

children of Israel to the promised land. As noted in the beginning of

Exodus, Moses and Aaron only said to Pharaoh that he should send out

the people so that they may serve the Lord in the wilderness (See

5:1). It is my humble opinion that Pharaoh was so stubborn that if he was

told at the start that the Children of Israel should be released so that they

can go to the land of Canaan, he would never let them ago or even

negotiate their departure. Moses strategy worked. By requesting Pharaoh

to let them go celebrate with God in the wilderness, Moses and Aaron

were able to have a dialogue with him and in this in turn led to the

Exodus from Egypt.

The parsha of the week influences and controls weekly events. This week we

witnessed the power of God’s tools including the wind, rain and fog.

We witnessed the separation of the Children of Israel and the Gentile world,

especially Goshen from the rest of Mitzrayim. We witnessed darkness all over

Mitzrayim except in Goshen. The darkness was so thick you could feel it. Likewise,

in the USA and Canada, the fog was so thick it was described as soupy.

There were numerous collisions as a result of the fog. In the block of our shul, known

as the Markham Street, the Rushesha Shul, Shaarei Tzedek and the Jeff Phillips Shul,

due to hurricane force winds, a tree fell down and destroyed a car. It also took down

the electric power of the block, except for the shul and a few houses next to it. This

story made headline photos in the Toronto Star and National Post. We also saw the

power of the wind when it knocked down an Air Canada plane over the rockies. All

of these events attest to the strong hand of God in our daily lives. In this Parsha, we

saw how Pharoah hardened his heart in not allowing the Children of Israel to depart

from Egypt. Likewise, top yahoo news story read, “President Bush hardens his tone”.

The news said that Bush demanded that Israel remove all settlements from the West

Bank. Just like Pharoah was defeated, President Bush’s efforts were defeated as noted

in the top news of today, 1/11/08, where it said on Reuters news wire, “

peace mission without breakthrough

destruction. Although America gives Israel much aid, it is mainly looking out for it’s

own interest. Just look at the American Jonathan Pollard, he is still languishing in jail

although he spied for Israel. However, just like the God of Israel protected us in

Mitzrayim a mere 3000 years ago, the God of Israel protects us amongst the wolves of

today. We must always give thanks to God, our only true friend.

A refuah shlaima to my father Yaakov Zev Ben Malka Blima.

Bush ends”. His breakthrough would have lead to Israel’s
