Indeed, one who slanders someone, talks bad about somebody, or deviates from the path of the Torah of Moses brings trouble on himself/herself. However, in the topic of the Metzorah, the Torah does not say what is the cause of the affliction is. It only says that the person is brought to the Kohen. Where do we have an allusion to evil talk or deviation from the Mitzvohs? With the aid of the codes, we have an allusion. The Torah says the following, , והיה בעור בשרו לנגע צרעת “and it will become a tsora’as affliction on the skin of his flesh” (Leviticus: 13:2). If we take the acronym of the encircled letters (rearranged) it spells several terms, some with very negative connotations. One word is ערות, nakedness. This term can be found in the story of Noah when he became naked from drunkenness (Genesis 9:22). Another phrase is תרעו , act wickedly. This phrase was used by Lot urging the people of Sodom not to act wickedly against his guests (Genesis 19:7). Another phrase is רעות , were evil. This phrase was can be found in the Torah where Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the eyes of his father Isaac (Genesis 28:8). Moreover, when one does bad things it causes the Divine Presence to depart as the Gematria of the above phrases are 676. Another phrase with the same number is אסתירה, I will hide (Deuteronomy 32:20). If you say or do bad things , you lose divine protection and then evil forces are free to attack. Indeed, this is why we were attacked by עמלק, Amalek as the Children of Israel became spiritually deficient at Rephidim. Moreover, with the aid of the revealed and hidden letter code, we can see the wickedness of Amalek. The revealed and hidden letters of Amalek are the following ע(ין) מ(מ) ל(מד) ק(ופ) . If we add up the numbers of 130+80+74+186=570 . A phrase with the same number is רשע , rasha , wicked and reversed, it can be read as עשר, osher, wealth or abundance. The upshot is that when we acquire wealth, which is caused by the eyes (ע ayin means eyes) and the ש shin represents energy, it will lead to רכוש, rechush, possessions, which , in reverse spells Rasha, as one can forget about G-d and think that everything material comes from owns efforts, which isn’t true. You can invest a million dollars in a venture and lose it in one day. Our wealth comes with the aid of Heaven and we can lose it without it. Moreover, possessions and wealth bring along their own worries and it can potentially take up much time to take care of it. This leads us to less time to study Torah and if we study less, then we cannot know how to observe it properly, especially the laws of Sabbath. According to Reish Lakish, there are 39 subcategories of each of the 39 categories of Shabbos. This means that there are really 1521 categories. How many of us can say that we reviewed the 1521 categories to properly observe Shabbos, let alone the 39 categories? We can see another interesting insight from the Shema Yisroel prayers. The revealed and hidden letters of שמע, are the following ש(ין) מ(מ) ע(ין). If we add up the numbers of 360 + 80+ 130 = 570. This adds up to Gematria of 570. Does this number sound familiar? In the Shema Yisroel prayers we learn of the blessing of much abundance if we follow in the path of the Lord. However, if we turn away from G-d, then it leads to trouble and destruction. Hence, we see the double edged sword of Gematria. If we study and observe the commandments, we are given עשר, osher or wealth. However, if we turn our hearts away from G-d and serve gods of others, the blessings of wealth will reverse to רשע, rasha, wickedness and we will then be punished. Our history attests to that. One more phrase with the same number that ties in to the topic is מדברתיך, medabrosecha, your speech. Hence we see that it is wicked acts and wicked speech that causes trouble. Indeed, the Psalmist gives us important advice where he says the following; נצר לשונך מרע ושפתיך מדבר מרמה, “Guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceipt.” The Gematria of this phrase is 2403. When we do this , then we will emulate G-d who is holy. The proof is in the Gematria. Another phrase with the same number can be found in Kedoshim, where the Torah says, והתקדשתם והייתם קדשים כי אני ה' אלוקיכם, “You shall sanctify yourselves and you will be holy, for I am G-d , your G-d.” A refuah shlaima to my father who is recovering from stroke at Vanderbilt Nursing Home, SI, NY Shabbat Shalom שבת שלום In this Parsha, we learn about the purification process of the Metzorah. According to the sages of Israel, the affliction of צרעת tsoraas comes as a result of speaking evil talk. According to Rabbi Matisyahu Glazerson and Professor Haralick, in their book Torah Codes, state that the Zohar says that the term, צרעת, can be read as עת צר, meaning a time of trouble. As a side note, I was privileged to host the Bible Code Seminar this past week at the Marriot Hotel on 4/13/05. The speakers were Professor Haralick, Professor Eliyahu Rips, Rabbi Glazerson and myself. The Talmud says, "Everything is caused by Heaven except for catching cold" (Kesuvos 30) I was witness to this firsthand. Let me give you the story. My friend Arnon, came to the lecture and he gave me a Torah Code book. He then left the seminar at 9:30. At 9:30, Rabbi Glazerson spoke about the end of days from a heavenly standpoint and he mentioned that it would be begin in 1976. He then showed the audience how the term, Torah Codes, is actually found in the Torah and then he showed us that one of the first codists in modern times was Harav Shmuel Yaniv. He showed his name in code. I was looking at the book that my friend gave me and I realized that it was the same Rabbi that Rabbi Glazerson was showing on the screen. I was in shock. It was none other than Rabbi Shmuel Yaniv who wrote a book called , Tsefonot Betorah. The Talmud’s words are confirmed. May we conquer our evil inclination and may we always merit to see the Hand of Heaven in all of our affairs. | |
