The Mountain of Peace

This week’s Parsha is called rvc, Behar, in the mountain . What was so special about this mountain? In the Torah it is called the mountain of God (Exodus 3:1).hbhx , Sinai can be read as hh xb, neis hashem, or a miracle of God. According to Rashi, God taught Moses all of the commandments , including general rules and the fine points at Mount Sinai. We learned the Written law and the Oral law at the base of the mountain. With the aid of the codes, we see an allusion to the creation of both worlds as well. In the year 2448 BCE, Mount Sinai was shaking , thunder was rumbling , lighting was striking and the sound of the shofar grew louder and louder as God spoke. The people heard the voice of God and also witnessed acts of nature. If we take the revealed and hidden letters of the term  rvc, Behar, (ah)r (t)v (,h)c we find the term v-h ,hatrc , which means in the beginning God. The term ,hatrc , Bereishis is mentioned at the beginning of the Torah as it talks about creation of the heaven and earth. This sheds some light on a Talmudic discourse (Menachos 29b) on creation in which it says, ohnkug rum 'v v-h-c hf sg hsg 'vc ujyc, “Trust in God forever for in God (BiYah), God is the strength of the worlds” (Isaiah 26:4)  Rabbi Yehuda Bar R Il’ai said the following,  tuv lurc ausev trca ,unkug hba ukt , “These are the two worlds that the Holy One , Blessed is He, created. The Gemara goes on to say that this world was created with the letter v, hey, and the World to Come was created with the letter h, yod. The Gematria of the letter yod and hey is 15. In this Parsha, we learn about the importance of Sabbath observance as it says, urna, h,,ca ,t, “My Sabbaths shall you observe”(Leviticus 26:2). Now, the week has 168 hours or 10,080 minutes and if we divide it by the Shabbos (Sabbath) which is 25 hours and 12 minutes or 1512 minutes according to the Rabbeinu Tam 72 minutes calendar (see Vaad L’Chizuk Kiyum Hamitzvoth calendar (718-851-1314)) we have exactly 15% of the week that is dedicated to the Sabbath. This teaches us that the Sabbath not only represents this world but it also represents the World to Come as well. Perhaps that is why there were 15 steps leading to the temple, and there are 15 psalms of the Shir Hamalos, song of ascents, all alluding to our loving Creator.  If this world was made with the letter hey, that is 5, and the next world, is a  yod, that is 10, that means that the next world is double this world which is an allusion that the next world will be so much better than this world.    

When we observe the Sabbath we are respecting and connecting to our Creator, who is known as v-h .  TMoreover, the observance of the Shemittah (land rests every 7^th year) and the Yovel (50 year jubilee) makes us aware that the true owner of the earth and the Universe is God who created the world in six days and rested on the Seventh day. 

As noted in our Sabbath Minchah prayers, the observance of God’s commandments brings us peace as well and that is the goal as ohnhv ,hrjtc , bi’acharis hayamim,  end of days equals ouka oha , sim shalom, grant us peace,  which are each 726, respectively.
As regards to the rule of Shemittah, the Torah says vk ,ca .rtv v,cau, “and the earth shall observe a Sabbath rest for God”(Leviticus 25:2).  If we take the last letters of the term, it spells, vuka , shalva, or inner peace (Psalms 122:7). In discussing the return of the fields which have been sold (see Rashi at Leviticus 25:10)  the Torah says, u,zjt kt aht o,cau, “and you shall return, each man to his ancestral heritage”(Leviticus 25:10). If we take the acronym of the encircled letters, it spells the term ouka, shalom, peace. May we always merit much tranquility from Sinai as the term, hbhx rcsn MM Midbar Sinai (Exodus 19:1), equals 376, which is the Gematria of Shalom, peace.
